Cutting Overseas Spending 'Could Lead to More Jobs at Home' A private think tank believes that rising overseas spending by Koreans is partly responsible for slowing domestic consumption, and spending that money at home could create thousands of jobs. The Korea Economic Research Institute on Thursday said its analysis of household consumption from 2011 to 2017 shows domestic spending rising 1.6 percent on average a year but overseas spending 10.1 percent. It is common for people in countries with growing income levels to spend more on travel abroad. KERI believes that Koreans' overseas spending is rising too quickly compared to domestic spending and cannot simply be attributed to higher incomes. Rather, it believes that the domestic tourism industry lacks the pull of its foreign rivals. It cited the contrasting performance of Korea and Japan in attracting foreign visitors. In 2010, Korea and Japan were virtually neck-and-neck in terms of the number of tourists. But last year, only 13.34 million tourists came to Korea but 28.69 million to Japan. Even discounting the sharp decline in Chinese visitors due to China's unofficial boycott over Korea's deployment of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense battery, KERI says the gap must be blamed on the poor competitiveness of Korea's tourism industry. It added that steps must be taken to improve Korea's tourism industry to stem the excessive rise in overseas spending. Choo Kwang-ho, a researcher at KERI, said, "If we bring back just 10 percent of overseas spending to the domestic market, it would have the effect of creating W2.5 trillion in added value and 73,000 jobs."

Fred and Cindy declared on TV that their son had been physically tortured, in order to spotlight the dictatorship's evil. The president pushed this narrative. Meanwhile, the American military made preparations for a possible conflict. Otto became a symbol used to build “a case for war on emotional grounds,” the New York Times editorial board wrote. As the Trump administration and North Korea spun Otto's story for their own ends, I spent six months reporting—from Washington, D.C., to Seoul—trying to figure out what had actually happened to him. What made an American college student go to Pyongyang? What kind of nightmare did he endure while in captivity? How did his brain damage occur? And how did his eventual death help push America closer toward war with North Korea and then, in a surprising reversal, help lead to Trump's peace summit with Kim Jong-un? The story I uncovered was stranger and sadder than anyone had known.

Solid Ways To Travel And Have Great Fun
Traveling is a lot of fun, even if you are going somewhere relatively close to home. You will need to plan to have a stress-free trip. Before you leave make sure all of your paperwork is in order. This includes visas, passports and any other documents you need.
If you want to save money, you should set up your travel arrangements as early as you possibly can. Despite the different ways you can spend your money on your travels, many share one feature: the earlier you buy them, the cheaper they are. Try not to do things at the last minute in order to have more money left in your budget later.
Bring a good digital camera for the vacation that you are taking. If you want to go backpacking, you'll want to pack a rechargeable battery. In any case, take a digital camera that is quick to turn on and focus so you won't miss the shot you want.
Try to add travel price watcher to save money. A lot of websites allow you to specify your destinations and will monitor prices for you. When the prices of the hotel or airfares drop to the level of your choosing, the website will alert you with an email about the change. This will save you the hassle of checking on the price daily.
Keep travel essentials stored in the same place of your home. You don't want to spend your valuable time looking around your house for toiletries, charges or pillows. Get a bin and keep all of your travel items in one place. It's even better if you can get one that fits under your bed or that can be tucked away somewhere else conveniently.
Stores tend to overcharge for these items, and the space saved is minimal, so save the money. Try to save space in other ways, like packing more efficiently or eliminating unnecessary items. These techniques will help you create additional space in your bag.
Don't drive during rush hour. Try to plan around those hours. This is a great time to grab a bite or give the kids some exercise.
Sleeping pills can get you through a red-eye flight. Many people cannot sleep on a plane because of the unfamiliar surroundings, the uncomfortable seats, and the noise from the plane and passengers. You may want to take a sleeping medicine if you will be on an extended flight, so that you may rest comfortable while flying. Always wait until you are safely in the air before taking your sleeping pill because delays can happen or planes can be grounded.
Consider environmentally friendly services for an ecologically mindful trip. There are several hotels that offer an eco-friendly program. You can find lots of restaurants, rental car establishments and tour operators that strive to offer green services.
